The implementation of major ecological projects can lead to extensive land use changes, thereby affecting regional ecosystem service functions. To explore the spatial-temporal patterns and trend changes in the implementation area of the ‘Grain for Green’ Project (GGP) on the Loess Plateau from 1999 to 2020, this dataset was constructed at the county level, taking into account China's administrative divisions. Specifically, annual land use data were extracted and processed using ArcGIS software, resulting in the annual GGP implementation area data for each county (district) on the Loess Plateau from 1999 to 2020, including seven types of land use conversions, with a total data volume of 179.1MB. This dataset provides a theoretical basis for the protection and management of the Loess Plateau's ecological environment and offers data support for the implementation of regional GGP projects.

Using ArcGIS software to extract and process annual land use data, obtain annual GGP implementation area data for each county (district) on the Loess Plateau from 1999 to 2020.
The data quality is good.
